Infrastructure
The ninth district, Alsergrund, is located near the city centre and counts as one of the inner districts of the city. It is a perfect location not only for sightseeing, but also to experience the local vivid city life. The affluent area is home to schools, hospitals, beautiful historic buildings, as well as a range of cafés, restaurants and bars. It counts as one of the quieter neighbourhoods of Vienna, where the streets are lined with grand “Altbau” (pre-WWII) architecture. An absolute gem of the district is the Liechtenstein Museum, where you can see the private collection of the Prince of Liechtenstein, view beautiful Baroque paintings, or simply enjoy the lovely Palace Garden. Other sights include the Freud Museum, the grand Votiv Church (Votivkirche) bordering the first district, along with the Votiv Park, and the Volkstheater, where you can visit an operetta, ballet production, or classical musical. Another note-worthy stroll is through the inner courtyards of the Old AKH Campus (Old General Hospital, now home to the University of Vienna). These are charming at any time of the year, but especially during winter time when the main courtyard is home to one of Vienna’s many charming Christmas Markets.
The apartment is located in Währinger Straße, with bakeries, restaurants, supermarkets and all necessities in the immediate vicinity. Just around the corner, you will find the metro station Schottentor, connecting you to the U2. The tram lines 37, 38, 40, 41 und 42 pass directly in front of the apartment (station Schwarzspanierstraße), taking you to the city centre. Alternatively stroll down the street on a leisurely 5-minute walk, take in the local bustle of the neighbourhood, and arrive at the Votiv Church, where the first district starts. All the main sights are easily accessible on foot, and the apartment makes a lovely starting point to experience Vienna city and the lovely historic architecture of Alsergrund neighbourhood as well as the first district.
The ninth district is home to many charming breakfast, lunch and dinner spots, as well as cafés, bars and pubs. Our favourite cafés include Coffee Pirates and Edison, at the latter you can also enjoy a light lunch or brunch on the weekends. For delicious French cuisine with a view onto Votic Church and its park, go to Café Français or Café Le Marché. For authentic Greek cuisine in an authentic Greek setting, visit Rembetiko’s restaurant, located near Liechtenstein Palace.
